National Construction Charity & Nevada Contractors Association Lead Dozens Of Volunteers To Improve And Repaint Local Boys & Girls Club Gym

ż Charities Inc.’s Annual Operation Opening Doors Project Involved Contractors from Across the Country who Donated Time, Materials & Money to Help Repaint the Gym that Serves the Local Community

HENDERSON, NEVADA – ż Charities Inc. and the Construction Leadership Council of the Nevada Contractors Association teamed up to lead dozens of volunteers to make improvements and repaint a large gym for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. The volunteer workday at the Donald W. Reynolds Clubhouse in Henderson involved painting – free of charge – a 45-foot-tall gym that encloses three basketball courts and serves the local community.

“A couple hours of work will make years of difference for the local community,” said Thomas Brown, the chairman of ż Charities, Inc. “These volunteers gave back to the community and showed how big our hearts really are.”

The volunteers who participated in today’s charity project are all members of the Associated General Contractors of America, the national commercial construction trade association. Many of the volunteers arrived early into the area to participate in the project prior to attending the association’s annual convention, which is taking place at the Wynn between March 13 and 16, and the CONEXPO-CON/AGG exhibit at the Convention Center.

The volunteers divided into teams and spent the day painting over 30,000 feet of wall area. Some of the volunteers worked on donated scissor lifts, while others worked on scaffolding systems and used rollers and extenders to paint the lower level of the gym. All told, the volunteers provided services valued at approximately $50,000.

Much of the work and donated supplies were arranged by the Construction Leadership Council of the Nevada Contractors Association, the local chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. The Council, which includes many of the younger professionals in the association, planned the work, developed the materials list and lined up many of the supplies and donations needed for today’s project.

“The Nevada Contractors Association always comes together as one to complete a mission, especially when it comes to helping our local community,” said Nadia Griffin, director of marketing & events for the Nevada Contractors Association. “We are thrilled to be a part of this great project and are looking forward to creating a lively space for our local Boys & Girls Club.”

United Rentals donated the use of eight different scissor lifts for the project. Other firms that contributed to the project include AJA Construction Services, Anning-Johnson Company, The Korte Company, Martin Harris Construction, McCarthy Building Companies, Burke Construction Group, Tradewinds Construction, VJS Construction Services, Garco Construction, Kokosing, Mc2 Civil, Western Elite and Vieth Construction Corporation.

“The newly refurbished gym will help us continue to provide nationally recognized sports and recreation programs designed to help youth develop the mind, body and soul,” said Andy Bischel, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada President & CEO. “We are delighted to receive the support from ż Charities, Inc. and the Construction Leadership Council of the Nevada Contractors Association and look forward to partnering with them in the future.”
