Íæż½ã½ã's committees are led by a chair and vice chair that help guide and facilitate conversations and projects. Leadership positions are open to active committee members.

National Leadership

The Board of Directors is the governing body of Íæż½ã½ã of America. The Board has full authority to define policy governing its own conduct and the affairs of the Association. The Board is composed of the Íæż½ã½ã Officers, the Occupational Division Chairs and Vice Chairs, the Specialty Contractors Council Chair, the Service & Supply Council Chair, the President of the Executive Leadership Council (ELC), and nine (9) members selected by the President. Íæż½ã½ã Committees

Our volunteers work to advance the Íæż½ã½ã mission by exchanging ideas and lead change from within the construction industry.

  • AASHTO-Íæż½ã½ã-ARTBA Joint Committee

    The AASHTO-Íæż½ã½ã-ARTBA Joint Committee’s mission is to participate in the four (4) AASHTO region’s annual conferences and give contractors in each region the opportunity to have topical discussion on important matters facing the highway construction industry along with state DOT heads, their chief engineers, and FHWA divisional staff in each region.

    Committee Tasks:

    • Attend one AASHTO regional meeting, which includes participation an Íæż½ã½ã caucus meeting and a joint breakfast meeting.
    • Provide meaningful input on the agenda topics.
    • Assist with drafting discussion papers prior to the regional meetings.
    • Attend the Joint Committee Executive Meeting to help set top-line policy goals for the upcoming year.

    Time Commitment
    The regional AASHTO conference meetings take place over two (2) days with a total in-person meeting time of three (3) hours. The Joint Committee Executive Meeting is three (3) full days of in-person meetings.

    The AIA-Íæż½ã½ã Joint Committee’s mission is to support a performance-driven approach to the creation of a collaborative built environment, inclusive of individuals from all walks of life, that provides optimal outcomes.

    • Inclusion -- Re-frame preconceived notions of careers in our industry and create opportunities for all.

    The Construction Career Committee’s mission is to oversee Íæż½ã½ã of America’s construction career and workforce development efforts. The committee will provide strategic guidance to Íæż½ã½ã staff as they craft and implement appropriate construction career and workforce development initiatives.

  • Construction Law and Operations Committee

    The Construction Law and Operations Committee’s mission is to facilitate better project results through fair and best practice contract documents.

    Committee Tasks:

    • Provide expertise for Íæż½ã½ã’s policy decisions and advocacy in the area of construction law.
    • Keep abreast of the latest developments in construction law and legislative updates relevant to the committee’s work, such as the impact of artificial intelligence on creating, negotiating, and administrating construction contracts.
    • Lead volunteer working group and task force efforts supporting ConsensusDocs contracts as well as Íæż½ã½ã’s construction law efforts to provide guidance to its members.
    • Share the latest developments in construction law case law and construction law legislation (most of this activity takes place at the state level).
    • Create guidance/model contract language to address emerging issues such as a Covid 19-Rider or language to address new treatment of tax incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that impact the construction industry and builders in particular.
    • Help support the other Íæż½ã½ã occupation divisions and other Íæż½ã½ã committees and taskforce in their understanding of construction law and contracts.

    The Construction Leadership Committee’s mission is to fulfill the need to cultivate the next generation of leaders in the construction industry as well as the association both at the local and national levels.

    Committee Tasks:

    • Active participation in one of the CLC working groups: Engagement with Chapters, Student Chapter Engagement, and CLC In-person Event Engagement
    • Actively participate in other Íæż½ã½ã committees and divisions, as assigned, to elevate the CLC’s perspective in other areas of the Association

    The Corps Committee’s mission is to foster effective communication between Íæż½ã½ã members and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in order to help deliver construction projects in a safe, efficient and timely manner.

    Committee Tasks:

    • Participate in at least one in-person presentation to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Headquarters.
    • Participate in at last one WebEd with the Army Corps.
    • Select topics and participate in Íæż½ã½ã’s annual Federal Contractors Conference.
    • Participate on committee task forces and work groups, as needed.

    The Diversity & Inclusion Committee's mission is to create a construction industry and association environment that is welcoming and inclusive for all construction industry professionals regardless of one’s background, opinions, perspectives, experiences, or ideas.

    Committee Tasks:

    • Participate in committee meetings, work groups or task forces as needed to accomplish committee’s goals;
    • Evaluate committee applications and select new committee members; and
    • Promote diversity and inclusion within Íæż½ã½ã by joining and actively engaging in one of Íæż½ã½ã’s four divisions, and/or Íæż½ã½ã’s Service & Supply Committee.

    The Environmental Committee’s mission is to guide and influence Íæż½ã½ã of America’s environmental advocacy, education and outreach efforts.

    • Participate in committee task forces and work groups as needed.
    • Make reports and recommendations to the executive board as needed.
    • Develop policy recommendations, meetings and other events regarding matters within the scope of the committee.
    • Help plan and, if possible, attend the annual Íæż½ã½ã conference on construction and the environment.

    The Federal Facilities Committee’s mission is to foster effective communication between Íæż½ã½ã members and the General Services Administration and Department of Veterans Affairs in order to help deliver construction projects in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.

    • Participate in at least one in-person presentation GSA and VA, Headquarters.
    • Participate in at last one WebEd with the GSA and VA.
    • Select topics and participate in Íæż½ã½ã’s annual Federal Contractors Conference.
    • Participate on Quality Control taskforce.

  • HR Committee

    The HR Committee’s mission is to shape the agenda for HR policy discussions and priorities within the association.

    Committee Tasks:

    • Provide feedback and suggestions on potential speakers and topics to help shape the agenda for the HR Conference / HR Summit.
    • Perform at least one speaking role at the HR Conference, either as a presenter, a discussion panelist, a facilitator for a lunch roundtable discussion, or to introduce a speaker.
    • Participate in a post-conference feedback session immediately following the HR Conference.
    • Actively participate on the Íæż½ã½ã HR Forum Message Board by posting new topics, replying to existing topics, and encouraging fellow Íæż½ã½ã HR professionals to actively use the forum.
    • Attend the HR Conference and HR Summit each year while serving on the Committee.

    The IT Committee’s mission is to share technology information and best practices and lead related initiatives to the benefit of the Association's members and chapter staff.

    Committee Tasks:

    • Overseeing the activities of the forum.
    • Participating in committee task forces and work groups, as needed.
    • Making reports and recommendations to the Íæż½ã½ã Executive Board (presentations in person (if necessary) to be done by Chair);
    • Developing policy recommendations, meetings, and other events regarding matters within the scope Committee.

  • Lean Construction Committee

    Íæż½ã½ã’s Lean Construction Forum is focused on growing the implementation of lean practices in the construction industry by providing educational opportunities and developing a community where anyone with an interest in lean construction can come together to engage in a dialog on best practices, share information, and participate in a broad, coordinated effort to promote and define the use of lean concepts and processes within the construction industry.

    Committee Tasks:

    • Develop Deliverables through the three working groups: Learning, Value People, and Organizational Change
    • Develop one webinar series over the course of the year

    The NAVFAC Committee’s mission is to foster effective communication between Íæż½ã½ã members and the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command in order to help deliver construction projects in a safe, efficient and timely manner.

    • Participate in at least one in-person presentation NAVFAC, Headquarters.
    • Participate in at last one WebEd with the NAVFAC.

    The Project Innovation and Delivery Forum’s mission is to align the execution of construction projects with the latest innovations in safety, quality and productivity, and to educate the industry on best practices in order to deliver quality projects on time and on budget.   • Public/Private Industry Advisory Committee

    The Public/Private Industry Advisory Committee (PIAC) was established to provide a direct line of communication between private and public owners and the Íæż½ã½ã of America. The primary mission of the PIAC is to promote dialogue with private and public owners involved in facility construction on issues including owner needs, market trends, industry best practices, legislation and foster open communication among owners and contractors about issues and concerns that impact the entire construction industry. Through the PIAC, Íæż½ã½ã's goal is to foster a construction industry that is more responsive to owners' needs.

    • Organize calls to facilitate the execution of a webinar series.
    • Connect Committee members with various division staff to participate in division, committee and Convention creating engagement.
    • Market and communicate identified committee meetings to more Íæż½ã½ã members.

  • Risk Management Committee

    The Risk Management Committee’s mission is to guide Íæż½ã½ã of America’s efforts to proactively identify potential risks in construction projects; provide risk management strategies, resources, and support to its members managing risks on construction projects; and promote compliance with industry standards to minimize accidents, financial losses, and delays in construction projects.

    Committee Tasks

    • Inform Íæż½ã½ã’s risk management priorities and programming.
    • Collaborate with Íæż½ã½ã staff, members, and other industry stakeholders to develop and disseminate best practices, educational programs, and peer-to-peer engagement opportunities related to risk management within the construction industry.
    • Engage with the leaders of the insurance and surety industries to identify and discuss the latest trends and common concerns, and to advocate for coverage and services tailored to the construction industry’s unique risks.

    Recommended Experience:

    • Currently employed in a risk management role at an Íæż½ã½ã-member general contractor or subcontractor serving as the "in-house" insurance/surety decisionmaker.
    • Have 5-10 years of experience working in a construction risk management role, with a deep understanding of risk assessment, risk mitigation strategies, and risk financing techniques.
    • Experience in reviewing and analyzing construction contracts to assess risk allocation and potential liabilities.
    • Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices.
    • Be employed by an Íæż½ã½ã member firm in good standing.
    • Be willing to devote time and effort to the well-being of the Committee, Íæż½ã½ã, and the construction industry.

  • Safety & Health Committee

    The Safety & Health Steering Committee serves to assist the President of Íæż½ã½ã with safety and health issues in the construction industry by engaging with Federal agencies during the rulemaking process, educating members through safety training programs and conferences, identifying and/or participating in research opportunities, and recognition of safe contractors through the administration of awards programs.

    • Time Commitment
      One hour a month for committee meetings, attendance at the Safety and Health conferences in January and July, and additional time to participate in the development of various programs.

  • Service & Supply Committee

    The Service and Supply Committee’s mission is to be the vehicle of choice for its members to build value with leading firms in the construction industry - nationally, regionally and locally.

    Committee Tasks

    • Advocate for Service & Supply Members and the construction industry.
    • Promote Service & Supply Members as Subject Matter Experts within the Íæż½ã½ã and in the industry as a whole.
    • Ensure content consistency, quality, and relevance by establishing guidelines and standards for Service & Supply Member speakers and contributors across Íæż½ã½ã platforms and events.
    • Facilitate speaking engagements and panel discussions to highlight Service & Supply Member knowledge and thought leadership.
    • Actively participate in relevant task forces and working groups focused on key industry issues and initiatives.

    The Specialty Contractors Council's mission is to be the advocate and information resource for specialty contractors within the construction industry by creating a seat at the table for the specialty contractor.

    Committee Tasks:

    • Participate in calls to facilitate the execution of a webinar series.
    • Connect Committee members with various division staff to participate in division, committee and participation in Convention creating engagement.
    • Market and communicate identified committee meetings to more Íæż½ã½ã members.

    The Union Contractors Committee's mission is to represent the association’s union-contractor members on matters involving labor relations.

    Committee Tasks

    • Regularly attend Íæż½ã½ã’s annual convention and other in-person events that are relevant to union contractors.
    • Provide guidance to the Association on policies, positions, and programs of significant impact to construction contractors that operate under collective bargaiing agreements.
    • Represent the association’s union-contractor members in relations with international unions, other construction contractor groups, construction owner grous, and the federal government on matters involving labor relations.
